The weather is a vital component to the trip's success and so we are vigilant in ensuring we obtain the most accurate forecast the day before departure as before this moment, forecasts are notoriously less accurate. For a trip to be confirmed we need to have a projection that can allow all passengers comfort. Cloud cover is not a reason to cancel a trip as clouds rarely stay around for more than a morning or an afternoon for us on the coast. However, heavy rain for more than a day or two, coupled with high winds and a drop in temperature is definitely a reason to cancel the trip. These conditions happen more in our ‘winter’ months and surprisingly less in our rainy season.
Determining an accurate weather forecast will be done the eve of the trip, often in the afternoon. Generic apps that measure weather, however accurate in your home town, are not accurate for us along the coast in Belize. Let us take our experience to ascertain what is best. To do this we take advice from the Belize Met office in person, we take the time to call the Chief Forecaster directly and get their opinion. We reserve the right to postpone or cancel a trip if this information leads us to believe that the trip's success will be compromised due to the weather. This being said, most of the year we have good weather, with only rainfall at night and little or none during the day!
We are not responsible for changes in the weather conditions, but we are responsible for ensuring that guests are comfortable if there is, say, more rain than forecast. Rarely this happens but when it does we will continue the trip with the crew working extra hard to ensure that we deliver a fantastic trip, despite the less than ideal weather.
If of course the weather is deemed unsafe by the crew, we will be forced to cancel the trip. This will be determined by the crew and the office with Coast Guard advisories, not by a guest.
