Come sail with us on our

3 Days & 2 Nights Sailing Tour

This tour was created to take you away from the high traffic areas around Caye Caulker, San Pedro and Belize City to the remote cayes in the Southern waters of Belize. The boat sails inside the reef which offers calm waters for guests comfort so sea sickness should not be a concern. The trip leaves Tuesdays and Fridays throughout the year (as long as we have the minimum numbers and decent weather conditions).

It’s important to note that this is a one way trip, finishing in Dangriga and we never undertake the tour in reverse, sorry! Guests often use this change of location to explore the southern parts of Belize’s mainland i.e. Hopkins, Placencia or Punta Gorda or Westward into Cayo or even into Guatemala. For those who want to head North after the trip, Belize City is a mere 1.5 hour shuttle ride away and so this journey South on the sea has really not taken you out of your way.

The structure of the journey set up like this gives the guest the maximum benefit to explore a larger section of the inner reef in a short period of time.

It is important to remember that this is not a luxury cruise but a simple adventure which is rich in the beauty of Belize offering sailing, snorkeling and fishing whilst camping on the first night and dormitories on the second night.

The tour leaves Caye Caulker between 8:30 - 9:00pm from the Ragga Sailing Adventures office. This day is the longest travel day out of the three days as we head out of the highly populated waters and into the more remote areas below Belize City - sailing time anywhere between 4 - 6 hours depending on the wind.

This day guests will snorkel 2 stops on the reef as the catamaran sails down the reef. These exact locations may vary depending on the wind as the Captain will ensure optimal free diving conditions for guests. The third snorkeling spot for the day can be Rendezvous Caye itself and this stop is optional.

On route at all times we will have out our trolling fishing rods with guests and crew watching eagerly when the line moves indicating that something is caught on the line that can be reeled in for dinner. We also offer spearfishing for the guests that are physically strong enough to use a speargun and this will be undertaken at any of our snorkeling stops that are not a Reserve.

Rendezvous Caye is an idyllic island Southeast of Belize City. This first night’s experience is right out of Robinson Cruso as it's a white sandy mound with a scattering of coconut trees, a number of wooden shades and a beautiful white, picture perfect beach. The island is private for us alone for the evening so we make ourselves at home immediately by erecting your own ‘beachfront accommodation’ for the night i.e. your tent! Crew will assist and guide you to undertake this simple task. We provide all the necessary equipment including mats and sheets.

After camp is set up guests can enjoy a game of volleyball before sunset, snorkel or even indulge in "happy hour" with the open bar and fresh ceviche. Sunset on Rendezvous Caye is truly spectacular and will bring memories that last a lifetime with dinner, served at the end of the dock, following the sun setting.

At sunrise tea and coffee will be available at the dining area on the dock. Guests slowly wake from and get ready for another day in paradise whilst breaking down their tents and getting ready for departure.

Breakfast is served on the boat which heads out for more adventures for Day 2 at around 8:00am.

Similarly to Day 1 there are 2 snorkeling stops and a third optional one in the afternoon. Day 2 has less sailing time than Day 1 at around 3 - 4 hours total.

After lunch we will have completed 2 snorkel stops for the day and so we head to our third and final stop, the Tobacco Caye Channel. This is an optional snorkel stop as some guests choose to swim/float and hang out around the boat in the crystal clear waters.

Eventually we will head into the beautiful Tobacco Caye for the night offering a completely different experience than your first night. Tobacco Caye is located in the South Water Caye Marine Reserve and is approximately 3.5 acres in size. She holds 4 small hotels and an unrivaled charm in the Caribbean.

Here the group will focus around the Ragga Residence where we locate our kitchens and dining area and 4 of our rooms. For sleeping arrangements on the island we share the balance of guests between 2 hotels on the island, Windward Guest House and Jo Joes by the Sea.

For those who wish to upscale to have their own private cabana and shower facilities, this is possible for an additional $100 USD per accommodation which is based on 2 persons. This will depend on availability and cannot be confirmed until the eve of the tour.

Sleeping arrangements are mostly dormitory style with 2 to 3 bunk beds in each room. Those traveling in groups of 4 persons can therefore request to have their own dorm room. We also have 4 queen rooms designated for 4 couples that can be allocated. All of these accommodations are simple but clean and comfortable.

Similar to the first night, guests explore the island whilst enjoying happy hour and dinner is served after sunset.

Last but not least, Day 3!

Passengers pack up their bags and head towards the dock at around 8am. Breakfast is served on the boat as we head towards South Water Caye.

On the last day we snorkel the always beautiful South Water Caye Channel for 1 snorkel stop.

Before lunch the boat anchors off South Water Caye’s southern beach. This area of powdery white sand with crystal clear water is knee deep. For our last hour or so, passengers enjoy this picture perfect setting with a few farewell cocktails as the "icing on the cake" for the trip.

Lunch is served on the boat and then we make our final sail back to Tobacco Caye. Guests gather their possessions together and get ready for the motor boat transportation that will take passengers speedily into Dangriga. The boat departs Tobacco Caye at around 2pm and arrives in Dangriga (at the main river mouth in Dangriga, the Riverside Cafe) at approximately 2:45 to 3:00pm at the latest.

You will be pleased to note that we bring a Chef on board our trips who really does become the most popular member of the crew. The menu, due to our location, is fairly fish oriented however each evening meal we will add a chicken dish along with salad or veggie dishes and rice and or potatoes. When in season conch and fresh lobster will be served - shrimp throughout the year. All dietary requirements can be fulfilled as long as they are communicated to us in advance of the journey - nothing is too complicated! For those who have strong allergies to peanuts (there will be none on this trip) and for those with shellfish allergies, we are experienced in ensuring that the food preparation is perfectly safe for all guests but we do require for the guest to take along their own Epipen.

Throughout the day and night there will be water at all times - guests will be encouraged to drink water to avoid dehydration. Along with water we have juice and sodas. Alcoholic beverages are served at night with local rums, vodka and gin with all the necessary mixers. We do not carry beer with us on the trip as it requires too much refrigeration and that is impossible on a three day journey off the grid - sorry!

If a guest is in need of something a little more different, then the bar at Tobacco Caye can offer a cold beer or even a frozen drink like a margarita if the need is there. This is not included in the cost of the trip. Also guests wanting something specific to drink like say wine, they are welcome to bring it along and the crew will chill it for your own personal use.

The weather is a vital component to the trip's success and so we are vigilant in ensuring we obtain the most accurate forecast the day before departure as before this moment, forecasts are notoriously less accurate. For a trip to be confirmed we need to have a projection that can allow all passengers comfort. Cloud cover is not a reason to cancel a trip as clouds rarely stay around for more than a morning or an afternoon for us on the coast. However, heavy rain for more than a day or two, coupled with high winds and a drop in temperature is definitely a reason to cancel the trip. These conditions happen more in our ‘winter’ months and surprisingly less in our rainy season.

Determining an accurate weather forecast will be done the eve of the trip, often in the afternoon. Generic apps that measure weather, however accurate in your home town, are not accurate for us along the coast in Belize. Let us take our experience to ascertain what is best. To do this we take advice from the Belize Met office in person, we take the time to call the Chief Forecaster directly and get their opinion. We reserve the right to postpone or cancel a trip if this information leads us to believe that the trip's success will be compromised due to the weather. This being said, most of the year we have good weather, with only rainfall at night and little or none during the day!

We are not responsible for changes in the weather conditions, but we are responsible for ensuring that guests are comfortable if there is, say, more rain than forecast. Rarely this happens but when it does we will continue the trip with the crew working extra hard to ensure that we deliver a fantastic trip, despite the less than ideal weather.

If of course the weather is deemed unsafe by the crew, we will be forced to cancel the trip. This will be determined by the crew and the office with Coast Guard advisories, not by a guest.
